Can you tell us a little about your personal experience with the criminal justice system?

We have first-hand experience with the criminal justice system. Going through challenging periods, in various stages of our past, however, we utilise these experiences to educate young people and professionals on how to avoid entering the system, to better the system and how to rebuild lives when leaving the system.

How did your experience in the criminal justice system inspire you to start a CIC?

My personal journey through the criminal justice system made me realise the importance of providing support and opportunities for individuals who are at risk or have already been involved in similar situations. I wanted to make a positive impact on their lives and help them navigate a different path.

Do you only support young people aged 16-25?

No, we support young people from primary school age upwards to prevent them from entering the system and adults over 25 who have recently left the system..However, we believe that early intervention and support are crucial for young individuals who may be on the verge of getting involved in criminal activities. By targeting this age group, we can provide them with the necessary skills, guidance, and opportunities to make positive choices and change their trajectories.

How did your experience in the criminal justice system inspire you to start a CIC?

What specific services or programs does your CIC offer?

Xconversation, focuses on teaching young people digital skills such as editing, sound engineering, camera operations, and marketing. We provide training and hands-on experience in these areas. Additionally, we offer paid work experience as part of our pre and post-production teams, giving them a chance to apply their newly acquired skills. We also offer bespoke workshops for young people in schools, pupil referral units, prisons and community groups and organisations. We also offer corporate workshop experiences consultancy.

How does your CIC aim to support individuals who have already been involved in the criminal justice system?

For those who have already been involved in the criminal justice system, we provide a supportive environment where they can rebuild their lives and gain a fresh start. We offer mentorship, wrap-around support and resources to support them in overcoming challenges and developing a positive mindset.

What are your goals for the young people who participate in your programs?

Our primary goal is to empower the young individuals we work with, equipping them with valuable digital and transferable skills that can lead to sustainable employment opportunities. We aim to instil confidence, encourage personal growth and development as well as employability skills and foster a sense of belonging within the communities they reside in.

How do you measure the success of your CIC in supporting young people?

We assess success by tracking the progress of our participants. This includes evaluating their personal development and monitoring their engagement in the program. We measure the distance travelled from their first interaction with us up until they no longer require our support and measure their transition into further education, employment, or training. We also gather feedback from participants to continuously improve our services.

Are there any success stories or notable achievements from your CIC that you would like to share?

Absolutely! We have witnessed numerous success stories within our CIC. Many of our participants have gone on to secure employment or pursue further education in digital media-related fields. Some have even started their own businesses. These achievements highlight the transformative impact of our programs on their lives.

How can individuals support or get involved with your CIC?

There are various ways to support our CIC. Individuals can volunteer their time and expertise, organisations can provide equipment, financial contributions and employment opportunities.  You can help us establish partnerships with other organisations. Additionally, spreading awareness about our mission and the opportunities we offer can make a significant difference in reaching more young people.
